Corfu is one of the most child-friendly Greek islands. The beaches are calm, the food is mild and varied, the locals genuinely welcome children. With the right base and a rental car, a family of four can have an effortless week here.

The best base for families

Three areas stand out for families with young children:

Areas to avoid with very young kids: Paleokastritsa (steep paths to most beaches), Sidari (lively bar scene at night), Kavos (party town).

Best beaches for kids

Acharavi Beach

Long, sandy, shallow for 50+ metres out, very gentle waves. The whole length has tavernas and beach bars catering to families. Easy parking.

Roda Beach

Same characteristics as Acharavi — sandy, shallow, calm. Slightly more compact and walkable.

Marathias Beach

South-coast equivalent: long sand, very gentle slope, family tavernas. Quieter than the north coast.

Glyfada Beach

West coast, sandy, but with stronger waves than the north — fine for older kids, more challenging for toddlers. Excellent beach bars.

Avlaki Beach (near Kassiopi)

Pebble (so water shoes are useful) but very calm and beautiful. Single taverna right on the beach. Less crowded than the resort beaches.

Child seats and rental cars

Greek law requires children under 12 (or under 135 cm tall) to use an appropriate child restraint. We provide all four standard categories free of charge:

Just specify the child\'s age and weight when booking. We pre-install the seat so you can drive away immediately at the airport.

For groups of 5+, choose our 7-seater Peugeot Rifter. For 4 people with full luggage and child gear, the Fiat Tipo or a small SUV like the Hyundai Bayon is more comfortable than a compact.

Family tavernas (tested by us, recommended often)

Practical packing tips

For the practical side of getting around, see our driving guide. For a balanced family itinerary, our 5-day plan works well — adjust by skipping Pantokrator if children are very young, and adding an Aqualand day instead.
